Jurassic Park: I see dinosaurs!
Jurassic Park (1993)
The Plot – A pragmatic paleontologist visiting an almost complete theme park is tasked with protecting a couple of kids after a power failure causes the park’s cloned dinosaurs to run loose.
Why is it Worthy? – Just before Summer kick off in the year 1993, iconic director Steven Spielberg gave us a film experience unlike anything we had seen before. The marketing campaign made sure everyone knew that this movie had dinosaurs and these dinosaurs are the most realistic we had ever seen. In fact, while we had seen CG characters before, like in James Cameron’s The Abyss some years before, these CG characters were realistic and scary and it is as if the dinosaurs were really there. People flocked to the cinema and Jurassic Park was a summer blockbuster. But while the CG T-Rex brought people to the cinema, it was Spielberg’s capabilities in story telling, the interesting characters, the well thought set pieces and the tension build up that made this movie a masterpiece – one that spawned 2 sequels and a reboot trilogy called Jurassic World. Spielberg spends a lot of time on the people visiting the park and the relationships between them. And in addition to that, the movie boasts a music theme by legendary composer John Williams which amplifies the wonder we feel as the the camera cranes over the park. The movie won 3 Academy Awards for Sound, Sound Effects and Visual Effects. Jurassic Park is a ride that stood the test of time and is more than welcome to be part of the Land of Movies.
