The First Disney Movie Ever Made

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Who would have known, back in 1937, that this Disney animated movie was to become the first of so many Disney classic movies and the start of a multi-billion empire. Walt Disney mortgaged his home in order to do this experiment which was to be the first cel animated feature of all time. His wife attempted to stop him from producing the film, but we know how the movie turned up. It was a tremendous critical and box office success. Also, it generated money through another stream – one that Disney know too well – merchandise. Walt Disney reinvested the money gained in a new studio and the production of Pinocchio and Fantasia.

And you cannot talk about Snow White without watching this clip by Walt Disney himself as he presents the seven dwarfs one by one. You can see the Time magazine cover featuring the man himself.

And there goes the trailer. If you haven’t seen the movie, you should. This was quite an achievement and still holds up 80 years later.
